Sunday Talk: “From the Beginning”

This week’s Sunday talk will be by Jaxon from his blog, I Looked and Beheld. The post being re-bloged is called “From the Beginning”.

But the Lord knoweth all things from the beginning; wherefore, he prepareth a way to accomplish all his works among the children of men; for behold, he hath all power unto the fulfilling of all his words. And thus it is. Amen.

1 Nephi 9:6

In the introduction to The Book of Mormon we read that,”the plates were delivered to Joseph Smith, who translated them by the gift and power of God”. Also in the Testimony Of The Prophet Joseph Smith we learn that the Lord had prepared, what would be called, “the Urim and Thummim” to aid in the translation of the record. Over the course of several years of study I have come to learn that most Latter-day Saints, including myself until a few years ago, do not know much about the details of the translation process. We imagine what it was like based on artistic renditions of the process. It is important to note that images, such as the one found in Preach My Gospel, page 38, are historically inaccurate. I place no blame, nor fault, on The Church or artists for this. In the end it is up to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to know how it happened.
